Workshop was a success

To the Editor:

Last Saturday, 162 landscape and turf management professionals attended the largest-ever event of its kind on Martha’s Vineyard, a one-day workshop that focused on the new Island-wide fertilizer regulations. These regulations will protect the Vineyard’s water systems from excessive nitrogen and phosphorous application. It was truly unique to have so much experience under the same roof working collaboratively for the benefit of themselves and the community.

I would like to thank all of the participants: the Island boards of health for driving this important initiative; Mary Owen, J. Scott Ebdon, and Michelle DaCosta of UMass Extension for leading the workshop; our sponsors, Harrell’s and Vineyard Golf Club; Josh and Angela Aronie for the

food; and our many volunteers who worked the event.
