This Sunday is the great and famous Easter Egg Hunt at the Duck Inn in Aquinnah, starting at 1 pm. This past weekend there were many busy hands dying and decorating Easter eggs at the inn. I believe Elise usually gathers around 400 eggs to be decorated and hidden around her property. There is always a potluck lunch/dessert inside the inn, so please bring something to share. It tends to be a little heavy on desserts, because nothing says Happy Easter like cake (seriously, there are usually about five different cakes there, at least). Aside from all the goodies and the kids from town running around trying to find the golden egg and fill their baskets with as much as they possibly can, it is a great time to gather with neighbors and see how everyone is doing and get caught up. It’s like everyone comes out of hiding from the winter, gets a little dressed up and comes over. This event, while it can still feel wintry outside, heralds the real start of spring in the town. And it is a reminder of how all the kids are growing up and changing. Babies who were not yet born last Easter get shown off and passed around, children who were too young to hunt for eggs before now understand the task at hand and go for it, and children who have outgrown the hunt help to decorate and hide the eggs. It’s a special event, and we are lucky to have it.

Joan LeLacheur will hold a Spring Open Studio and sale at her studio, 42 Old South Road, this Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. This week they will meet at Fulling Mill Brook, next week on Chappy; April 18’s location is to be determined. This “explore” is for both adults and kids. How fun is that? A multigenerational exploration. It is from 11 am to 4 pm. Call Saskia at 508-645-2008, or go to sassafrasmvy.org for all the details and prices. It is less expensive if you preregister, but you can show up on the day of the exploration as well.
