It seems as if spring is tiptoeing in at greater speeds after making us wait so long for this warmer weather. I have been anticipating the flowers breaking up through the flower beds, and at last they are here. Just the sight of their graceful blooms brightens up the days. The birds too have resumed their springtime songs, and swing around the bird feeder in between interruptions from the pesky squirrels.

Just to reinforce your faith that spring is really here, Grace Church in Vineyard Haven wants to remind all of us that they will once again be selling their lobster rolls starting Friday, May 15, from 4 to 7:30 pm. Just to make it more tempting, they were voted Best of the Vineyard the past 8 years.

Spring Electronics Disposal Day is approaching, and will be held on Saturday, May 16, from 9 am to 2 pm at the MV Community Service campus across from the MVRHS in Oak Bluffs. Recycle your own or your business’ old and tired air conditioners, cell phones, computers, copiers, dehumidifiers, fax machines, microwaves, monitors, laptops, printers, ranges, refrigerators, scanners, stereo equipment, televisions, washers, dryers, etc. Fees range between $2 and $30. And there is a 10% discount for carloads. All proceeds will benefit Martha’s Vineyard Community Services.

Take time from your busy lives to attend the Annual Musical May Tea with Martha Child and Friends. On Saturday, May 16, from 1 to 3 pm, the women of the First Baptist Church in Vineyard Haven will be serving tea, sandwiches, and cake. There will be a hat contest, with prizes awarded, and white elephant and bake sale tables. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. For info, call 508-693-1539.

More music ahead when the MVRHS Minnesingers present their annual Spring Concert, “An American Songbook,” with dance, celebrating 90 years of the Oscars. The concert is this weekend, Saturday, May 9, at 7 pm and Sunday, May 10, at 3 pm in the MVRHS Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 or $7 for students and seniors, and are available from any MVRHS Minnesinger or at the door. A bargain for a wonderful time of music and dance.

The Tisbury Senior Center once again presents the program “How to Remember Not to Forget,” which is back with updated information. The program is free and for all ages. As it takes place on Monday, May 11, at 1:30 pm, don’t forget to sign up by Friday, May 8, at 508-696-4205.

Moms and Muffins sounds like a tasty experience, and our library will present this program on Saturday, May 9, from 10 to 11 am. You will decorate muffins and make a Mother’s Day craft for Mom.

The A-Maze-ing Library will show you how to find your way through a giant walkable maze on Saturday, May 16, from 10 am to 1 pm. This is for all ages, and if the weather permits, the program will be outdoors. Otherwise it will be held indoors.

Party time at the second annual Library Luau on Friday, May 15, from 5 to 9 pm. There will be ukulele music, games, food, and photos with Elvis. This adults-only event is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted.

Sincere condolences to my neighbor Kaye Manning on the loss of her daughter Joan Cobb, who died last week. She leaves behind many family members and friends. We are so very sorry, Kaye.

Condolences also to the family and friends of Patty Garvin, who passed last week. Her family and friends will feel her loss.
