The regional high school girls’ varsity lacrosse season came to an end on Monday with a 10-3 loss to Falmouth Academy in the first round of the state tournament.

Falmouth got off to a quick start, scoring three goals in the first three minutes of the game. Lee Hayman put the Vineyard on the board, scoring at 12:08 on a perfect pass from senior Aubrey Ashmun. Erin Hill scored the other first-half Vineyard goal, finding the back of the net off a free position with 1:29 left in the second quarter. Falmouth led 6-2 at the half. Erin Hill sparked the Vineyard offense, scoring at three minutes into the second half off a great pass from Aubrey Ashmun to put the score at 6-3. But Falmouth found the net 4 more times, securing the final 10-3 score.

For retiring Coach Betsy Dripps and seniors Aubrey Ashmun, Olivia Ogden, Emily deBettencourt, and Katrina Lakis, it was their last game for the team.
