For the second year in a row, Martha’s Vineyard Hospital was named one of the top 20 critical access hospitals (CAHs) in the country in rankings recently announced by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA).

The Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals, including Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, scored best among critical access hospitals in iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength Index, based on a composite rating of all 10 of iVantage’s indices of strength, according to a press release.

Areas on which the rankings are based include quality of care, financial stability, and overall performance.
“Martha’s Vineyard Hospital is proud of the efforts of its medical, nursing, and support staff, who have contributed to our hospital achieving this designation,” Timothy J. Walsh, hospital president and CEO, said. “Our results mean our community can count on us to deliver the services they need now and in the future.”
An awards ceremony will be held during NRHA’s Critical Access Hospital Conference in October in Kansas City, Mo.

In addition to receiving the Top 20 Critical Access Hospital award, Martha’s Vineyard Hospital was named a five-star hospital by the Hospital Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, based on a ranking system by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Nationally, of the 3,553 hospitals included in the review, 251 hospitals received an overall rating of five stars. In Massachusetts, Martha’s Vineyard Hospital was one of three hospitals that received the five-star rating.
