To the Editor:
I am hoping my Island neighbors will donate blood on Tuesday, June 23, to help save lives and restock the much-needed supply of blood. Why don’t more people donate blood? It truly shocks me that people in general don’t jump at the opportunity to help others in real, life-threatening situations. Personally I consider it a privilege to donate. It takes about one hour, the needle barely hurts (one minor, quick prick, at most), you will get cookies and apple juice, and you could save a life.
The Island has an opportunity to prove and confirm we are a great and solid community, one setting a good example of truly mindful thinking and grace. On June 23rd, there will be a blood drive at the P.A. Club in Oak Bluffs. The hours are 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, and it is crucial to make an appointment. Log on to redcrossblood.org, or call 800-RED-CROSS to make an appointment in advance. This will allow them to staff the drive accordingly and reduce the time needed for you to donate. Let’s make this a record-high turnout.
Donating blood is a simple way to help save lives. It’s quick and easy, and all you will feel is good. If you are able, please make an appointment. Don’t be afraid of a little pinch. It may well save lives.
