Steven Atwood, V.M.D., of Animal Health Care, invites all interested Island horsemen and -women, veterinarians, and the horse-loving public to a three-hour seminar on Sunday afternoon, June 28. Dr. R.F. (Ric) Redden, D.V.M. will discuss equine lameness and laminitis (Lameness is an abnormal gait or stance of an animal that is the result of dysfunction of the locomotor system). According to a press release, Dr. Redden and his wife Nancy own the International Equine Podiatric Clinic in Versailles, Ky., and host the annual Bluegrass Laminitis Symposium.
They are coming to Martha’s Vineyard to help an Island mare, Merrylegs, who is afflicted with chronic laminitis.
The seminar is on Sunday, June 28, from 3 to 6 pm at Animal Health Care Associates, Airport Road, West Tisbury. Cost is on a sliding scale; suggested donations are $100 for veterinarians, $50 for farriers, and $25 for vet techs/students and members of the public. Attendees are invited to bring x-rays, videos, and questions for a discussion after the seminar. Refreshments will be served.
