The Island Housing Trust (IHT) will host a public information forum to discuss the ins and outs of creating accessory apartments, on June 24th at 7 pm at Howes House in West Tisbury.
“We’re pretty excited about accessory apartments as a way for us to work with owners of existing properties who want to create small-scale rental housing opportunities utilizing West Tisbury’s recently updated bylaw,” IHT Project Manager Derrill Bazzy said in a press release.
IHT’s “Partnership for Accessory Apartments” is designed to assist homeowners to determine the feasibility of an accessory apartment, and to provide a financial cost/benefit analysis of an accessory apartment.
IHT will also share conceptual “Backyard Cottage” designs that could either be prebuilt or site-built in a cost-efficient and energy-efficient way. “Our goal is to provide a roadmap for property owners interested in being part of the Island’s housing solution,” Mr. Bazzy said. “Our presentations will be brief, after which time we’ll have an extended question and comment period to gather input and ideas.”
Mr. Bazzy can be reached at 508-560-0548 to answer any questions about the IHT Accessory Apartments program.
