To the Editor:
Shopping in Oak Bluffs is a fun experience, but on Friday, June 26, a horrible incident happened to me and another shopper in a retail store on Circuit Avenue.
While we were shopping in the store, a song was playing, the lyrics of which were replete with cursing and the “N” word. An African-American lady calmly told one of the employees that she was offended by the lyrics, and asked if he would please change the song.
I also spoke up, and asked him to change the music, and made the point that customers’ needs should come first.
He declined my request, and said the store is geared to younger people.
Regardless of one’s race, sex, or age, business owners of retail stores that cater to the general public should not play music that any reasonable person might find offensive. It is inappropriate and unacceptable.
