In only his second appearance, Rick Hamilton of Edgartown sailed Hawksbill to a third-place finish against rugged completion in the Stone Horse Builder’s Cup Regatta held Saturday, August 15, outside Padanaram Harbor.

Hawksbill, hull No. 82, is owned by Rick’s daughter, Becca Lamarche of Edgartown. Hawksbill is a storied Stone Horse; her original owner sailed her out of the Florida Keys, venturing into the Gulf Stream and to Cuba before it was fashionable or legal.

On a spectacular day on Buzzards Bay, Dave Kane of Newport sailed Able, hull No. 101, to a first place in the 2015 Builder’s Cup race. David Neumeyer, sailing Bob Gleason’s Metaphor, hull No. 002, out of Wareham, passed Able on the first leg and held the lead until the final leg, seriously challenging Able’s reign as Builder’s Cup champion. The course was 5.0 nautical miles over four legs.

After the race, skippers, crews, and guests gathered on the lawn of the New Bedford Yacht Club for a post-race barbecue, cocktails, presentations, and conversations with old and new friends. The Builder’s Cup is a “one design” race for the Crocker-designed Stone Horse, built by Edey & Duff of Mattapoisett. The race is hosted out of the New Bedford Yacht Club by Dartmouth resident Tom Kenney, owner of Windfall, hull No. 046.
