Save the date for the Living Local Harvest Festival on Oct. 3. The opening night, Oct. 2, Friday, is a free screening of new episodes of “Sustainable Vineyard” at 7:30 pm at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center. The Harvest Festival continues from 10 to 4 on Saturday at the Ag Hall with live music, a fiddlers’ contest, pumpkin carving, games, and more. Recycle your old dehumidifier and get some cash back with Cape Light Compact from 10 to noon. Don’t miss the Puppet Parade at noon. $5 parking will benefit the Tisbury School PTO wellness program. See livinglocalmv.org.
Let the selectmen know if you do not like the changed route on Union Street. We lose at least three parking places with this change. It is not easy to see the oncoming traffic until you are well into Main Street. And we lose the only easy way to get to the Steamship Authority without a left turn at Five Corners.
Did you know that yoga strengthens your mind and body? It is not as hard as it looks when you try Gentle Yoga. On Thursdays our Tisbury Senior Center offers a Gentle Yoga class with Carol Aranzabe. You can stretch, strengthen, and work on improving balance and breathing in a relaxing environment. Carol has 17 years of experience and notes the changing needs of our aging bodies. The class ends with time spent in relaxation where your body has a chance to let go and surrender to reset itself. Ah! Now doesn’t that sound good? Call Sandy at 508-696-4205 for more.
If you want to use our parks, you should come to a meeting tonight. The Vision Council meets tonight at the Vineyard Haven library at 6 pm. Learn more about projects at Owen Park, Beach Road, and a new town park inventory. All are welcome.
Last Tuesday the selectmen were discussing a Beach Road alternative from DOT with a public hearing, but I missed that. Next Tuesday at 5:30 pm at the Cornell Theater, they welcome our questions on the Beach Road plan.
I like reading “Anna Karenina” better now than when I was younger. It certainly helps that a good translation was recommended. Especially helpful is the professor, Philip Weinstein. He loves sharing his knowledge of this author, and helps you to delight in the characters, soak in the atmosphere, all while you learn more about Russian history.
If you miss his seminar at the Vineyard Haven Library you can see it on Channel 13 the following Tuesday at 7 pm, or Google MVTV. Then click on Video on Demand. Type “Anna Karenina” in the search box.
Next weekend bicyclists will be here from all over the world to take part in Cycle Martha’s Vineyard. On Saturday there is one ride all around the Island, and another bike ride covering half the Island. More at cyclemarthasvineyard@gmail.com.
On Sunday there will be a bike ride from Edgartown to Menemsha, as well as a 10K run around Gay Head (gayheadlight.com). Remember the bikes have just as much right to the road as your car. Keep our Island roads safe. Watch for our visitors, and drive carefully.
Happy anniversary to Laurel Mayhew and Kevin Olson. They celebrate on Saturday. Joe and Susan Canha mark 46 years together on Monday.

Sunday belongs to Ashleen Dorsey and Eric Davison. Wish the best on Tuesday to Tristan Israel. Best birthday wishes go to Julie Immelt next Wednesday.
