Tisbury Police are investigating the theft of four paintings valued at over $2,500 reported stolen from the house of a local artist on Spring Street between Sept. 6 and Sept. 19, Tisbury Police Detective Kindia Roman said Tuesday. The artist asked not to be identified.
“The general idea is that there were workers on scene, so there are interviews going on right now as a part of an ongoing investigation,” Det. Roman said. “So there are potential suspects.”
The four paintings were the only items stolen from the home. There was no forced entry.
The paintings, which depict various Vineyard landscapes, were last shown at an art festival on Labor Day. The artist then brought them back home. On Sept. 19, she was preparing for a gallery showing and realized the paintings were no longer in her home, Det. Roman said.
“They mean a lot to her; she worked hard on them,” Det. Roman said. “So she’s pretty sad about that.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Tisbury police department at 508-696-4240.
