West Tisbury selectmen completed their regular business in record time Wednesday. They opened their meeting at 4:30 pm and adjourned at 4:35 pm.

Top of the agenda was a vote to open the commercial oyster season. The vote was contingent on a vote by the shellfish committee, which was scheduled to meet Thursday, Nov. 5.

“The selectmen have to vote to open the season,” town administrator Jennifer Rand told The Times, “however, because the shellfish committee usually makes a recommendation on the length of season and the rules, and because they didn’t organize a meeting until tomorrow and the selectmen don’t meet again until the 18th — they had to open it today as otherwise the fishermen couldn’t fish until the 19th or the 20th. So we said, ‘Yes, you’re open — by whatever rules you tell us tomorrow.’”

In other business, Andrew Woodruff was appointed to the Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank advisory board.

Chairman Cynthia Mitchell reiterated that the special town meeting will be held Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7 pm at the West Tisbury School.
