On Monday, for the first time ever, the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School girls and boys swim teams each won on the same day, defeating Saint John Paul at the Martha’s Vineyard YMCA pool. The girls won 99-53, and the boys were victorious 79-48.
Five different girls won individual events. Renee Goodale led the way with two wins (200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke). Salyn Yancey (200 freestyle, in a personal-best time of 2:38.89), Lia Potter (50 freestyle), Kate Hansen (100 freestyle), and Lucy Thompson (100 backstroke, in a personal-best time of 1:28.55) were also individual winners. The girls also captured all three relays, with Charlotte Rooney, Renee Goodale, Lia Potter, and Lucy Thompson taking the 200 medley relay. Charlotte, Renee, Lia and Kate won the 200 freestyle relay, and Salyn, Charlotte, Jessica Sonia, and Kate finished off the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay.
For the boys, Evan Sauter, Tucker Cosgrove, and Harrison Dorr each had two individual wins to lead the Vineyarders. Harrison also was on two winning relays, for a total of four first-place finishes. Evan set a school record in winning the 200 individual medley (2:20.42), and also won the 100 backstroke. Tucker set a personal best in winning the 50 freestyle (24.10), and then won the next event, the 100 butterfly. Harrison set a personal best in winning the 200 freestyle (2:07.79), and also won the 100 freestyle.
The Vineyarders won the 200 freestyle relay (Evan Sauter, Paulo Pereira, Harrison Dorr, and Tucker Cosgrove) and the 400 freestyle relay (Harrison, Gabe Ambulos, Curtis Fisher, and Keith Chatinover).
Both teams now have a record of 2-3. The Vineyarders travel to Nantucket on Saturday, Jan. 23, for their final away dual meet. Their last scheduled home meet is Monday, Feb. 1, against Bridgewater.
