It seems as if we have been trapped in a gigantic swirl of April Fool’s weather for the past week. We rapidly are caught in a cycle of sun, rain, and snow, and then it repeats over and over until we wonder if it is midwinter or spring. Sunday morning the sudden onset of wind and snow made me think we were living a snow-globe world as wind and flakes whirled in 15 directions at once, playing tag with each other like a group of children on a playground. And it appears that we are facing more of the same for a few more days this week.
Kids 8 to 12 are invited to our library to an Exploring Stories program, “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?” The program takes place on Saturday, April 9, from 1 to 2 pm; kids ages 8 and up will discuss different versions of the classic story. The program also includes a craft. The Magic Club meets at the library on Saturdays, April 9, 16, 23 and 30, from 2 to 3 pm. Come and play Magic: The Gathering. Bring your own cards, or use cards from the library’s collection. All levels and ages of players are welcome.
Martha’s Vineyard Community Services (MVCS) has been a part of many people’s lives, and now they would like to have you share your stories of recovery, struggle, or hope. When people share these stories, it lets everyone know that they are not alone. If you are a supporter, partner, volunteer, or individual who has been affected by the work of MVCS through Connect to End Violence, Disability Services, the Island Counseling Center, Early Childhood programs, the Island Wide Youth Collaborative, or the Thrift Shop, they would love to hear from you, It can be long, short, funny, touching, helpful, or just a great story – whatever you feel compelled to share. They will collect your story (and hopefully a photo too) and share them with others on their website. It is hoped that you will share your story and continue to inspire others and our Island community for years to come. Submissions can be anonymous. Simply fill out the form found at mvcommunityservices.com.
Reminder to parents that there are two more noon-dismissal days coming up at the Oak Bluffs School. Monday, April 11, and Wednesday, April 13, are parent-teacher conference days, so school classes will be dismissed at noon on those days.
