Island gymnasts compete in state championships

Seven gymnasts from Island Gymnastics Training School coached by Beth Goodell competed in the Xcel Bronze State Championships in Wilmington last Sunday.

In the bronze child division, Amy Maeda placed second in beam with a 9.2. She was fourth in bars with a 9.2, and took home an all around fifth place trophy with a score of 35.55. Maeve Cook-Martin took fifth in beam with 8.9. Grace Voshell and Elizabeth Carbon tied for sixth in beam with 8.85, and Eirene Eville scored 8.5 on bars.

In the bronze junior division, Aislyn Gates took second in vault with 8.975 and Sara Goodale took sixth in floor with 9.175.

The Island gymnasts will host an exhibition on Thursday, June 9, at Island Gymnastics in West Tisbury. All recreational classes and team members will participate in the end-of-year show.
