Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School baseball team Monday recognized seniors Tucker McNeely, Jacob Cardoza, Emerson Mahoney, and Peter Engley with a 2-0 win over Bishop Feehan.

Junior James Sashin pitched a four-hit complete game shutout to avenge a one-run loss to Bishop Feehan on Friday. Sashin was in command the entire game, striking out seven Shamrock hitters and giving up only two walks. Feehan threatened in the sixth and seventh innings with two runners on base in each frame, but Sashin dialed up heat for an inning-ending K in the sixth and a medium fly ball in the seventh to end the game.

All Sashin needed was a little offense, which was provided by junior Elias Fhagen-Smith and senior Mahoney. With the game scoreless in the fourth, and after junior Aidan Aliberti reached first base on an error, advanced to second on another error, and moved to third on a groundout by junior Mitchell Chaves, and with two outs and a full count, Fhagen-Smith laced a hard single between the shortstop and third basemen, scoring Aliberti. Mahoney added the insurance run in the fifth with two outs, ripping a deep line-drive double over the left fielder’s head to the fence, scoring junior Nainoa Cooperrider from second after a walk and wild pitch.

MV now stands at 12-6 (4-4 in the EAC) with two games remaining to solidify its Division 3 South state tournament ranking.

Vineyard defeats West Bridgewater
In a non-league game Saturday, the boys baseball team defeated West Bridgewater 11-8 Saturday. Elias Fhagen-Smith won his first varsity start, pitching five innings, striking out 10 West Bridgewater hitters while giving up only four hits, one earned run, and walking three for the MV victory.

Friday loss
The boys suffered a tough EAC league game 4-3 loss at the hands of Bishop Feehan Friday. The teams traded single runs in the first two innings with MV loading the bases in each of the first three innings however only coming up with two runs, both on sacrifice flies, one by Emerson Mahoney and one by Jonas Lukowitz.  Bishop Feehan knocked out 11 hits in the game and took the lead in the fourth inning and added an insurance run in the sixth.  MV battled back in the seventh with a one-out walk by Jacob Cardoza, a single by Lukowitz and ground out RBI by Mahoney.  MV had the tying run at third base with two out but could not score the run.  Jacob Cardoza pitched five innings for MV giving up 10 hits, 4 earned runs, walking 1 and striking out 2.  James Sashin pitched the sixth inning for MV keeping them close before the seventh inning rally that fell short.
