Vineyard boys tennis team advances in state tourney

The boys defeated Mashpee Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School boys tennis team, seeded tenth in the Division 3 South Section, traveled to Mashpee Thursday and defeated the number seven seeded team 5-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

In singles competition, number one player Zachary Danz beat Gunnar Mahoney 6-1, 6-2. Number two player Connor Downing defeated  Jebb Mahoney 6-1, 6-3. Vineyard number three player Graham Lewis defeated Liam Donovan 6-2, 6-4.

The first doubles team Of Max Hammond and James Kelliher defeated Alex Westport and Jeff Demarche 6-4, 6-1. Dave Webster and Thiago Muniz finished the shutout with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jashan Chopra and Curt  Nitzsche. The Vineyard raised it’s record to 13 and  4. Mashpee finishes at 13 and 4
