The MV United U11 (under 11) girls are the South Coast Soccer League Division 2 champions.

The U11 girls team headed into the playoff season with a third-place ranking. On June 11, the girls won their preliminary match against Bourne 3-0. That win sent them to the Mariner Soccer Complex on June 19 to play in the Division 2 playoff tournament. The girls played second-ranked Mashpee in the semifinal round. MV United beat Mashpee 2-0.

Paige Malowski scored both goals, with assists from Caroline Jane Walsh and Madison Packish. Goalie Maggie Best had a domineering game to protect MV United’s shutout.

MV United headed into the finals to play the undefeated Oceana Soccer Club on Sunday, June 19, at the Mariner Youth soccer fields. Oceana was the top-ranked team in their division, and only allowed four goals against during the regular season.

Oceana scored the first goal just minutes into the first half. MV United settled their nerves and tied the game on a direct kick from center midfielder Clare Mone just before halftime. Oceana scored another goal just a few minutes into the second half. With six minutes left in the game, MV United then tied the game on a corner kick from Clare Mone. With less than three minutes to go in the game, center defender Josie Welch took a shot on goal. The shot deflected off an Oceana player and into the back of the net to put MV up 3-2. With just seconds left in the game, Oceana made another press down the field, and MV United’s defense and goalie Maggie Best came up huge with two big saves, preserving MV’s first playoff championship. This was the girls’ first playoff tournament in their debut travel season.
