Martha’s Vineyard Hospital has joined other Partners-affiliated hospitals in implementing a new health records system, according to a hospital press release.

The system, developed by Epic Systems Corp., will allow doctors and healthcare providers easier access to medical records. The new system went into effect April 29, allowing patients to share lab results, x-rays, clinical notes, and medication history with other Partners-affiliated facilities, according to the press release.

“What that means is that regardless of where a patient is obtaining care, be it on-Island or off, their health record is now accessible to their healthcare provider,” Jennifer Lynds, the hospital’s IT director, said. “No more having to answer dozens of questions, no more sitting through — and paying for — additional sets of x-rays, and no more having to remember the names and dosages of the medications they’re on. It’s all right there at their doctor’s fingertips.”

Joe Woodin, the hospital’s CEO, praised the new system. “The true winners in this giant technological leap are our patients,” he said in the press release. “Partners eCare is not only safe, convenient, and efficient, but it’s the future of healthcare. It’ll improve the delivery and results of healthcare here on the Island, as well as give patients more control over their options.”
