To the Editor:
The care that I received at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital emergency room Thursday is worthy of a treatise, not just a thank-you note. The first minute I arrived, Nurse Beth Smith whisked me into room 4, and within seconds had me plugged in, wired up, lying down warming under heated, cozy blankets. The woman was efficient and capable and was able to multitask like nobody’s business. Her energy (and I was there for 7½ hours) never waned, and her smile never faded.
Dr. Karen Casper is a saint. She didn’t give up, and as the day wore on, I saw her get busier and busier, but she never abandoned me. “I’m not letting you leave until this blood pressure comes up,” she repeated all day, shook her head, baffled and concerned, and gave me more tests. I like a cautious doc, because I’m a little too casual about my own health.
Dr. Joel MacReynolds spent an unusual amount of time asking one question after another and really listening to answers. And joyous Helen Green, R.N., had to keep coming into my room for various and sundry materials, and every time she rushed in, she brought such a powerful life force with her it helped sustain a very long day.
Everything checked out. I’m fine. But watch out, I might be back. The attention is very seductive.
