MVRHS baseball beats Somerset Berkley

Martha’s Vineyard (11-6 overall, 5-2 Eastern Athletic Conference) jumped on Somerset Berkley (5-12, 1-7 EAC) with three runs in the first inning, and never looked back in a 9-5 EAC win Friday afternoon at Vineyard Baseball Park in Oak Bluffs.

The Vineyarders banged out 12 hits, and winning pitcher Jonas Lukowitz pitched six strong innings, giving up two unearned runs on seven hits, while striking out seven Raiders and walking two.

Aidan Aliberti singled three times in four at-bats, with two RBIs and a run scored. James Sashin, Chris Mayhew, and Hunter Fox Jakusik each had two singles and two RBIs; Sashin scored two runs, and Mayhew crossed the plate once. Tabor Caron belted a two-run double with the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

Chris Mayhew closed out the game with one inning of relief, withstanding a three-run seventh-inning rally by the Raiders, who refused to go quietly in their final Island appearance as a member of the EAC. Somerset Berkley begins play in the South Coast Conference next fall.
