Vineyard boys beat Cougars in tennis tourney first round


The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) boys tennis team started the postseason with a dominating 5-0 win over the Bishop Connolly Cougars in the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional first round, Thursday afternoon in Oak Bluffs.

The fourth-seeded Vineyarders (13-2) won each of the five matches in straight sets, dropping just three games along the way.

Zak Danz, Nainoa Cooperrider, and Chris Ferry swept the singles matches. Aksel Cooperrider and Owen Favreau and Jim Kelliher and Spencer Pogue prevailed in doubles.

The Vineyarders will play Bourne in the second round with the time and date yet to be determined.
