Menemsha Ponders tops in Vineyard Herreshoff Regatta

The fourth annual Vineyard Herreshoff Cup Regatta was held Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25, on Menemsha Pond. Eight 12½-foot Herreshoffs from the Menemsha Pond Races sailed against five Herreshoffs representing the Edgartown Yacht Club.

Over the course of five races, one on Saturday and four on Sunday, the MPR Herreshoffs took the top seven places. Mariah, with skipper Ken Iscol and crew Nick Karnovsky, finished in first place with 13 points, winning the third and fifth races. Southwind (Dick Bluestein/Charlie Shipway) was second with 16 points, claiming the second and fourth races. Edward Miller and Dan Karnovsky guided Crow Dancer to third place (18 points), keyed by a pair of second- and fourth-place efforts. Robert Soros’ Pippin won the first race and added a brace of third-place finishes to grab fourth overall with 19 points. Warren Spector in Topsy Turvey rounded out the top five with 25 points. Blake Middleton in Gemini placed sixth with 28 points, followed by Ted Rabe’s Outlier with 39.

Baba Smith in 4 @ Play had the best result for the Edgartown Yacht Club, sailing to third place in race five and totaling 41 points for eighth place overall.
