Thanks to the generosity of the Wharf in Edgartown, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) will be hosting an evening meet and greet event there on March 29 from 5 pm to 7 pm. According to a press release, members of the public who are interested in learning about the work BBBS is doing for the youth of the Island are encouraged to attend.
“As our program continues to grow on-Island, we need to expand our reach and offer opportunities for more people in the community to become involved,” says Connie Alexander, advisory board chair. “Over the past three years, we have added almost 20 new matches to the program here on the Island, and the advisory board is looking for community-minded individuals to help further our mission.”
Current “Bigs,” staff members, and advisory board members will be on hand to answer questions. Longtime Big Brother Tom Dresser will be speaking about his experience as a Big Brother.
“There are numerous ways to get involved beyond being a mentor,” noted J.R. Mell, regional director for BBBS. “The advisory board is looking to add members to their committees, as well as to discuss the opportunity to serve on the advisory board with interested individuals.”
There is no charge for this event, and anyone who is interested in helping BBBS on-Island is encouraged to attend. The evening will consist of heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks courtesy of the advisory board, and a small speaking program by regional director J.R. Mell and current Big Brother Tom Dresser. Advance registration is encouraged, and tickets can be found at bit.ly/bbbstix, or by visiting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands Facebook events page. If you are unable to make the event, but are looking to get involved, please contact J.R. Mell at 508-771-5150, ext. 101, or jrmell@bbbscci.org.
