The seventh annual Martha’s Vineyard Teddy Bear Suite holiday fundraiser reached a record amount of $41,000 for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club. According to a press release, in a check presentation at the club, founding sponsor Point B Realty, joined by event partner Harbor View Hotel, presented the check to the club’s executive director, Jessie Damroth.
The successful holiday event, which ran from the beginning of December through Dec. 31, at the festively decorated Teddy Bear Suite at the Captain’s Cottages at the Harbor View Hotel, now brings the total raised to $126,000 over the past seven years. All the money raised has gone directly to support the vital afterschool program Healthy Happy Kids, which targets childhood hunger and food insecurity, by providing more than 500 elementary school Island children every day with healthy, substantial snacks and meals at no cost.
In addition to donations at the door and online donations, the fundraiser also hosted the Teddy Bear Trot 5K Fun Run, along with a new opportunity to win one of the suite’s larger-than-life bears. Teddy Bear Suite organizers are already at work on building on those new successes in planning the 2018 Teddy Bear Suite fundraiser.
