Six Martha’s Vineyard United youth soccer teams took the pitch over the weekend.
Saturday, the Under-11 girls played their first-ever match wearing United purple and black, drawing 1-1 with host Bourne. The Island side controlled play for the majority of the match, with Emily Coogan scoring the Vineyard goal.
At Veterans Park in Vineyard Haven, the U-12 boys beat Sandwich 3-1, and the U-13 boys followed suit by a 5-0 count.
On Sunday, the U-15 boys drew 1-1 with visiting Taunton, and the U-16 boys opened the 2018 season with a strong 4-2 home win over Oceana of North Eastham. Tim Wallis played a stellar game in midfield and notched his first goal of the season, while Vineyard keeper Dash Christy kept United in the lead with several key saves. The U-16s host Fall River on Sunday, April 22.
