The Manchester Essex Hornets scored four goals in a one-minute span late in the third quarter and early in the fourth, then held off a late rally to top the Vineyard boys varsity lacrosse team, 13-11, Sunday at Dan McCarthy Field in Oak Bluffs.

Colby Zarba had given the Vineyarders a 9-8 lead with 4:05 left in the third quarter, but the Hornets scored the next five goals, closing out the period with two goals in the final 33 seconds, scoring off the opening draw of the fourth, and again 20 seconds later. The Hornets tallied again with 8:36 left in the game to take a 13-9 lead.

Sam Wallace answered for the Vineyarders 48 ticks later to give the hosts some momentum, and set up Riley Amaral with a sweet feed across the crease with 6:33 on the clock, but the Hornets weathered the storm to get the win.

Jacob Gundersen scored four goals, Riley Amaral notched a hat trick and one assist, Zach Moreis added two goals and two assists, Sam Wallace and Colby Zarba had a goal and three assists apiece, and John Morris chipped in an assist. Goalie Max Smith made seven saves.

The Vineyarders (5-5) travel to Attleboro on Tuesday for an Eastern Athletic Conference rematch with Bishop Feehan. MV topped the Shamrocks, 9-8, in the season opener on April 3.
