The MV United U-11 girls were the only team to play on the home pitch at Veterans Park this weekend, and dominated Taunton, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Vineyard girls continued to show great ball control and passing. Izzy Blake scored twice, while Sophie Arroyo, Jane Coogan, Audrey Heidt, and Annabelle Metell added a goal apiece. Blake, Metell, Aeden Coogan, and Talia Maccaferri combined to earn the shutout in net.

As for the road warriors, the U-13 girls headed across Vineyard Sound and blanked Falmouth, 5-0. The U-15 boys followed suit on Sunday, beating Falmouth, 4-1. Erick Miller and Emmett Athearn scored in the first half. Nico DePaula notched one in the second, and Falmouth scored one for the Vineyard with an own-goal. Finn Monahan anchored the United defense with stellar play. The U-12 girls and U-11 boys both drew 2-2 at Bourne, and the U-18 girls lost at Sandwich, 4-0.

The spring season of the MV United recreational program got underway on Saturday at the West Tisbury School, with more than 300 kids in tow. Richard Bennett and Shannon Carbon led the way for the program, while volunteer coaches include parents, grandparents, MV United board members and high school players. The Mini Kickers started the day at 9 am, with soccer running until the third and fourth grade boys finished at 2 pm.
