Holy Ghost Feast and Festival this weekend

Costumed Portuguese paraders march down Circuit Ave. - Andrei Cojan

One of the Island’s strongest (and most enjoyable) traditions arrives this weekend: the Portuguese Holy Ghost Feast and Festival in Oak Bluffs. On Saturday, July 21, at 5 pm folks will gather at the P.A. Club on Vineyard Ave. to feast on authentic Portuguese food while the kids play games and get their faces painted. Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish will provide the music this year. Then Sunday begins with an 11:30 am parade that starts from the SSA building in Oak Bluffs. Portuguese Folklore Dancers and the New Bedford Baystate Marching Band will entertain and the traditional blessing of the crown will take place. The parade ends at the P.A. Club where more revelry continues throughout the afternoon.
