Hugh Price will discuss themes from his 2017 memoir, “This African-American Life,” and his memories of a summer childhood on the Island in the 1940s, on Saturday, August 4, from 10 to 11 am at the Oak Bluffs library.

The Yale Law School graduate has gained national recognition for his tenure (1994-2003) as president of the National Urban League civil rights organization, but his story includes family roots in Revolutionary War times, growing up in the Jim Crow South, a career in civil rights activism, and stints with public broadcasting and the New York Times editorial board.

Price will also have a book signing hosted by Cousen Rose Gallery on Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs on Sunday, August 5, at 11 am.

His appearance is part of the Island’s African American Literature and Cultural Festival.
