If you’re wondering what that sound in Aquinnah is, it’s the profound silence that comes when people who have been working their tails off since mid-April stop and rest. While all the up-Island restaurants are closed, the Orange Peel Bakery Café will be open during the day, weather permitting. Pizza Night is still happening on Wednesdays from 5 to 8 pm. The store On the Cliffs and the other gift shops at the cliff are open through the end of the month, or in some cases until Thanksgiving, so don’t abandon the Cliffs yet! And of course the sun is still setting there every day.
The Gay Head 10K was this past Sunday, and I’m so sorry I was not there to cheer the runners on and watch friends cross the finish line. The No. 1 runner was Rene Da Silva from Vineyard Haven, the first woman to cross the finish line was Alex Testa from Reading. Aquinnah folk who ran the race: Sophia Welch, Alex Taylor (third in her age group!), Belinda Booker, Susan Kahn, and Sam Hart. Congratulations to all who ran and finished the race; I know that last part up around the circle is not easy.

This Saturday the Book Group will meet at 2 pm to discuss Chloe Benjamin’s “The Immortalists.”
Bonnie Menton so enjoyed teaching yoga classes at the Town Hall this summer that she will continue doing them through the fall; however, the day and the time will change. Classes will be on Sunday at 8:30 am, and they will begin on Oct. 21. Cost is $15 each, but I do think there might be a class card option too — just ask Bonnie. She’s amazing, by the way.
