The Unitarian Universalist Church on Upper Main Street in Vineyard Haven hosts a discussion on white privilege on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 pm. A number of books have been recommended for reading —- “White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide,” “White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism,” “When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir,” “Black Like Me,” and others. Everyone is welcome to attend, even without reading the books.
According to a press release, as a group, the Unitarian Universalists are interested in what they can do as individuals or as a group to understand what issues are most important here on Martha’s Vineyard. Members are involved in the homeless program, some members are involved in restorative justice work, and others are involved with the Island Food Pantry, Connect to End Violence, and other Island programs.
