Two school committee meetings slated for Thursday will mark the next chapter in the polarized high school athletic field grass versus artificial turf debate. At 2 pm on Thursday, the school committee’s facilities subcommittee will meet in the high school library conference room to discuss the track and field project with engineers. At 7 pm the same day, a public forum hosted jointly by the school committee and its facilities subcommittee will be held at the Performing Arts Center at the high school.
“I expect the PAC is going to be standing room only,” Edgartown resident Terry Donahue said. Donahue is a founder of MV@Play, a group supporting an artificial turf solution for the track and field project.
“We look forward to hearing from the community,” Chilmark resident Dardy Slavin said. “We hope to see everyone there.” Slavin is treasurer for the Field Fund, a group supporting a natural grass solution for the track and field project.
