Eugene William Baer, 92, of Vineyard Haven, died on Monday, June 24, 2019, at his home. He was the husband of Jacqueline F. Baer.

RIP Gene Baer, and thank you for having been among us. One of the Vineyard’s great souls is gone. Farewell to a good man who was kind, caring, creative, funny, wise, and ever so much more. His art classes at MVRHS were an inspiration to and a refuge for hundreds of students. He’s one of those people whose life has made the world a better place.
Mr. Baer was my art teacher at the Oak Bluffs Elementary School approximately 45 years ago. His lessons were fun and exciting. We all looked forward to art class. I still remember learning to draw in three-quarter view. He was able to make the whole class laugh. Thank you Mr. Baer for making art class so enriching and memorable. RIP
