A gas range exploded in the kitchen of a Campground cottage in Oak Bluffs Monday morning, sending one person to the hospital with burns. Oak Bluffs Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene at about 6:30 am, Oak Bluffs Fire Chief John Rose told The Times.

A person at the stove was scalded by boiling water that had been on the range top, Rose said. The force of the explosion caused damage in the kitchen, and blew out a window in the front of the house, Rose said. A gas company representative, the range installer, and a town gas inspector have been called in to examine the scene, he said. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, he said.
