Chilmark is set to sell a 4.1-acre parcel of land at 4 North Ridge Rd. The town took the land in a tax taking following a Land Court proceeding. The previous owner was Macy Design Corp., according to Chilmark assessor Pam Bunker. Prior to that, the owner was Robert D. Macy, she said. Chilmark will host an information session on the parcel at town hall on Thursday, with a site visit to follow. The board of selectmen haven’t determined whether the parcel will be sold in a traditional manner or via an auction, according to selectman Jim Malkin. Of the minimum asking price, town administrator Tim Carroll said, “We assume it will be the assessed value.” The present assessed value is $642,100. Carroll said he believed the parcel is a leftover lot from an old subdivision, and may have had a lien placed on it during the savings and loan crisis in the 1980s.
“Well, electric, and cable TV are at the site, and a perc test indicates that at least a six-bedroom septic [system] can be installed,” according to a town release.
“On Feb. 23, 2017, when the town foreclosed on the lot at 4 North Ridge Rd., the back taxes owed were $91,398.45,” Chilmark treasurer Melanie Becker wrote in an email.

Why would anyone loose there land worth over $600000 for less than $100000? Something is fishy here or the previous owner was real stupid.
