The Eben A. Thacher revisited

A couple of weeks ago, Chris Baer wrote about the Eben A. Thacher, a bumboat that functioned as a tug and steamer at the Island up until the 1950s, when it sailed for the mainland and ended up an oystering vessel in Norwalk, Conn. In response to the article, photographer and past Norwalk resident Bill Whitbeck submitted these more recent photos of the Eben A. Thacher, still working as an oyster boat in Connecticut. Whitbeck photographed the oystering industry around Norwalk in the ’70s and ’80s, and often ran across the boat, photographing it many times over the years.
