West Tisbury firefighters responded to a car fire at a residence on Waldron’s Bottom Road Saturday morning.

West Tisbury Deputy Fire Chief Greg Pachico said the first firefighter on scene reported back to him the car was “fully involved” and next to a house. The occupants of that house were evacuated. “Luckily the wind was in the wrong direction,” Chief Pachico said, and the fire did not spread to the home. An engine crew and a tanker crew responded and, using Class B foam, they were able to snuff out the car.

“The fire appeared to come from the engine,” Chief Pachico said, adding it was “unknown as to why.”

The Class B foam used was a different, more environmentally friendly formula than the type that has caused concern at the airport, according to Chief Pachico.

West Tisbury Police and Tri-Town Ambulance also responded to the car fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
