No new cases were reported last week.

For the first time this year, the Martha’s Vineyard boards of health reported no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in its weekly report Monday.

Weekly COVID cases have been on a declining trend since they peaked this year in early April, with 101 cases. Only seven cases have been reported in the past four weeks, with only two cases reported last week.

This comes a month after Tisbury was the state’s lone “red” or highest-risk community for COVID spread. Now each Martha’s Vineyard town is labeled “gray,” or lowest risk. Over the past two weeks, Edgartown has reported the highest positivity rate at 1.49 percent. Oak Bluffs is second with a 0.83 percent positivity rate over the past two weeks. Tisbury, West Tisbury, Chilmark, and Aquinnah have all reported zero cases and a zero percent positivity rate.

So far, June is on track to have the lowest monthly total of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, with only seven cases.

Martha’s Vineyard saw its highest monthly total of COVID cases in April, with 316 cases, of which 199 were symptomatic.

On the vaccine front, the hospital has administered more than 27,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine — 13,613 first doses and 13,551 second doses.

According to the Department of Public Health (DPH), 95 percent of Dukes County residents 12 and older are fully vaccinated.

At the state level Sunday, there were 31 new cases reported, for a total of 663,625 since the pandemic began. There are an estimated 1,432 active cases in Massachusetts. One new death Sunday brought the state’s total deaths to 17,626.

  1. Great job, MV! It’s so good to live in an area of this country where people mostly took this virus seriously and acted responsibly. Nearly all deaths and serious illness in the US from covid are now among the unvaccinated, especially the unvaccinated elderly. Vaccines work, even against the Delta variant.

    • No, Trump was wrong. Covid has not gone away. An average of 300 Americans are dying daily, that’s every day, from this disease. But you’re right, the big orange buffoon is still around and whining and spreading his Big Lie to people who are not smart enough to know they’ve been conned.

    • Albert– Covid has not “gone away”. Far from it. Perhaps we are better off here, but there are many ignorant communities in America that will needlessly suffer the consequences of the ignorance of their citizens.
Worldwide, infection and death rates are still quite high.
