Oak Bluffs and State Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Sunday night.
According to a press release from the Oak Bluffs Police Department, police were dispatched to the front of the police station at 11:16 pm, where a 36-year-old male was suffering from stab wounds to his abdomen. The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, “where he was stabilized and subsequently [airlifted] to Massachusetts General Hospital for further treatment,” according to the release.
In an email to The Times, hospital communications specialist Marissa Lefevbre also confirmed the victim had been sent via MedFlight to Boston in critical condition.
Listen up. Lots of bad people coming here now. If you witness bad activity report it to the police. Don’t say well they didn’t bother me so I’m not getting involved. That criminal might kill your family member the next day. Turn all criminals in.
“Lots of bad people coming here now.”???
I think home-grown islanders are more than capable of carrying their burden of committing major felonies. Your casting aspersions across our visitors as being more likely to commit these sort of crimes is not proven by the facts.
We even have witnessed, documented evidence our own law enforcement officials contribute to carrying that burden.
Search the archives here, it’s all there.
Our visitors here are innocent till proven guilty.
Why no information. Why no name. Why no suspects. Domestic???? What? Should we be walking the streets of o b ? Is it safe. ?? Info please. You’re treating it like a shark attack that might infringe on the tourist trade.
Mike– good points — but lucky for all involved the alleged stabber was a responsible citizen who did not have a legal gun when he went off the edge– at least 6 lives saved by a responsible criminal without a gun,
I dont know any ”responsible criminals” but Keller seems to. Mr Acker says”lots of bad people coming here now” but that occured years ago. The pathology of MV is well known even overseas. The drugs the addiction the foreclosures the debtors the homeless. This is a magnet because we enable and dont practice law enforcement. We dont look at ourselves in the mirror and simply indulge in some romantic vaguery about what a great place it is and what a close community we have. Nonsense.
Andrew– just look at the list of people who served in the trump regime who are either in jail or have been indicted. you think every one of them is a “responsible” criminal.
If you want to know more ask the appropriate source. If you want to be safe support those that make you feel safe.
If you are counting on a news paper for keeping you safe and informed…good luck.
We know nothing about the stabbing. For all we know, the wounds could have been self-inflicted. It happens. I hope the man will recover.
As far as seeing the isalnd as such a terible, crime-ridden place, (where most people still don’t lock their homes or cars and can safely leave money at honor-system farm stands), the distortions and exaggerations of sour grapes provide reason enough to sell one’s home, give up the rental income on it, and move to Florida and stay there permanently. If someone doesn’t care about the island and its people, sees us in such a poor light, why come here? The glass can be nine tenths full, but some people will only see the one tenth of emptiness, which in all likelihood, is coming from emptiness inside them.
The island has its fair share of problems, like everywhere else on the planet. You are free to leave if all you see are problems and don’t want to pitch in. At least don’t make the problems worse by endless kvetching. The willingness to give a helping hand as well as a basic honesty among the population is why many choose to stay. I cannot tell you how many times I have forgotten my handbag or, just last week, my wallet at a lunch couter, a farmstand, the Chilmark Store porch, even Cronigs and the SSA parking lot. I’ve never once not gotten my purse back fully intact, even after having left it overnight before I realize it’s gone. Occasionally I get a call that someone has found my belongings, but more likely than not, it’s sitting untouched, exactly where I left it.
Be smart, be safe, obey the law. And in my case, wear only cross body bags or fanny packs.
