The 10th annual Battle in the Bluffs youth basketball camp will be held July 2-3 at Niantic Park in Oak Bluffs.
Founders Ian Thomas Minor and Arthur J. Andrews III launched the free camp on the Vineyard in 2012, helping hundreds of children from across the country learn the fundamentals of basketball, improve communication skills, and enjoy healthy competition. The camp seeks to highlight skills that children can incorporate into their everyday lives, resulting in an environment where they encourage, support, and learn from one another on and off the court.
The event begins on Friday with a youth skills clinic, divided into groups for children ages 6-13 and 14-18, held from 8 am to noon, followed by a three-on-three competition for children ages 14-18, held from 5 to 8 pm.
On Saturday, children ages 6-13 will have a Youth Game Day competition from 10 am to noon. A skills challenge for ages 14-21 is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.
Battle in the Bluffs concludes with a pro-am game on Saturday night from 7 to 9 pm.
The camp is open to girls and boys between the ages of 6 and 18. Registration is free, but donations are accepted. The first 50 campers registered will have a guaranteed spot for onsite participation. To register or donate, visit connectiveinc.org. Donations benefit the Fern’s Fund, which honors Queen Fern Thomas’ legacy as a provider for Black and Brown youth who reside in inner-city communities.
