Passengers traveling to and from Woods Hole and the Vineyard via the Steamship Authority (SSA) this Sunday, August 15, should expect delays and should plan ahead for the Falmouth Road Race, according to a press release.

Service will be altered ahead of the running, and access to the Woods Hole Terminal via Woods Hole Road will be severely limited until 8 am.

As the race progresses, the road will be completely closed from 8 am until around 10 am, or until the last runner has cleared the area, the release states.

Travelers should expect delays along Woods Hole Road and Palmer Avenue all day due to the road race.

Trips on the Vineyard route will not be canceled that day, but customers traveling between 8 am and 10:45 am must be on the Woods Hole terminal property no later than 8 am if they plan to travel, or if they have a vehicle reservation for the boat.

The last bus to Woods Hole from the Thomas Landers lot will leave at 7:25 am, and the last bus from the Palmer Avenue parking lot will leave at 7:40 am.

The following trips will be affected by the road race:

 Departing Woods Hole

  • 8:15 am (arriving 9 am in Vineyard Haven)
  • 8:35 am (arriving 9:20 am in Oak Bluffs)
  • 9:30 am (arriving 10:15 am in Oak Bluffs)
  • 9:50 am (arriving 10:35 am in Vineyard Haven)

Departing Martha’s Vineyard

  • 8:15 am (arriving 9 am)
  • 8:35 am (arriving 9:20 am)
  • 9:30 am (arriving 10:15 am)

Vehicles traveling from the Vineyard to Woods Hole during these times will not be able to leave the terminal after getting off the boat, and arriving customers will be unable to ride a bus to one of the SSA parking lots until after the road is reopened, according to the release.

Additionally, certain trips aboard the MV Nantucket will leave earlier than scheduled in order to allow passengers to leave the terminal property before the race begins. They are:

Woods Hole to Oak Bluffs: The 6:30 am trip will now leave at 6:20 am.
Oak Bluffs to Woods Hole: The 7:30 am trip will now leave at 7:15 am.

The release notes that the Falmouth Police Department said vehicles on this boat will be able to leave the terminal when the boat arrives at 8 am.
