On Wednesday, March 13, the Dukes County Commissioners appointed Juliet Mulinare as new county treasurer.

Mulinare has a background in management; her previous work experience includes four years as purchasing manager and bookkeeper at general contracting firm Colonial Reproductions, based in Edgartown, and nine years working for the town of Edgartown as a procurement officer, dredge committee administrator, and facilities manager.

“The county commissioners are excited and pleased to have been able to fill the position with the knowledge that the necessary skills will be brought to bear, and that the numerous obligations of the Treasurer’s Office will be responsibly carried out,” the commission’s press release stated.

In the release, Mulinare spoke to her appointment: “I’m thrilled and honored to be given the opportunity to take on this challenge, meet new people, apply my skills, and learn new ones.”

Mulinare is set to start her work for the county beginning April 17. She takes over from Judy Soules, who has been in the role for a little more than a year. The position is elected, but Mulinare will be appointed to fill out the remainder of Soule’s term.

Soules was appointed last February as a replacement for former county treasurer Ann Metcalf, who left the position in July 2022 after being offered a job with the Martha’s Vineyard Airport. She had served as the Dukes County treasurer since 2018.

“We want to thank Judy Soules for her service, and Tim McLean, as well as staff members Beth Kaeka and Stephanie White for serving the county in keeping the Treasurer’s Office running,” Christine Todd, the chair of the Dukes County Commission, said in a statement.

The county is pursuing legislation that would make the treasurer position appointed rather than elected.
