The Summer Institute hosts speakers who are deeply and actively involved in politics, economics, science, and the arts. Featured speakers have included Nobel laureates, Pulitzer prizewinning authors and journalists, and political leaders.
The first in this year’s series is Binaifer Nowrojee: “Protecting Human Rights in a World Gone Wrong.” Nowrojee is an activist, lawyer, former investigator at Human Rights Watch, and current president of the Open Society Foundations. She will share their mission as the world’s largest private funder to protect human rights. Nowrojee will focus on the challenges to the future of human rights in the face of rising authoritarianism, laws to stifle NGOs and a free press, and intense political pressures. Thursday, July 9, 7:30 pm, at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center in Vineyard Haven. 130 Center St, Vineyard Haven, mvsummerinstitute.org/2026-speakers.
