To the Editor:

I wanted to express my deepest thanks and appreciation to the Edgartown Police Department, the Edgartown Ambulance Squad, and the doctors and nurses at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for assisting me in the early-morning hours of January 16th. It was a terribly cold and extremely icy morning, a very dangerous time for all.

I was home alone, as my husband was traveling. I was frightened and in a great deal of pain, and they couldn’t have been more professional, kind, and caring. It turns out I ended up having to stay in the hospital for several days thereafter. Interestingly enough, many people that I know here on the Island asked me about the experience, as fortunately they have not had to be a patient in the hospital, or experience a trauma that would require care from the local ambulance squad. I was happy to tell them about my positive experience.

Having lived here for just one year, I am so happy to know that the level of services on this Island certainly match those I’ve known in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area for the past 40 years. My husband and I are most grateful, and I didn’t want their efforts to go unnoticed.
