To the Editor:

I think it is a disgrace that social distancing and face masks are not being enforced in Oak Bluffs.

We have some of the finest police enforcement agencies here on the Island. Please keep up with this. Obviously the tourist trade is not at all concerned when they arrive here. Over the many years of being a resident on the Vineyard, I have seen so much disregard for our Island. Let’s all join together and keep Martha’s Vineyard safe during this horrible crisis.

  1. What do you think about just covering your mouth. I have asthma and have curtailed by island travels. I probably would be ok covering my mouth. what do you think?

    1. Redsox, there is an exception for people with medical issues. Legally speaking, I don’t know how they are handling it and don’t want to give bad advice.

In my opinion, in terms of you potentially spreading the virus, covering your mouth is more important than covering your nose, unless you have to sneeze. But I would be worried that with your nose exposed, you’re not getting any protection from others’ germs.

I would avoid travel that requires a mask on a really hot or muggy day, unless you practice and are sure you can take it. I have a lung condition, too, and could never breathe with a mask under those conditions. Will be staying home and working instead. ????

This article may be of interest. Sorry for the wishy-washy reply.
