SSA traffic decline continues
Steamship Authority passenger traffic was off 1.5 percent on Vineyard routes through the end of November. Nantucket passengers were down half of a percent. The numbers reversed themselves for auto traffic, down just two tenths of a percent to and from the Vineyard, were off 1.4 percent for Nantucket service. For trucks (freight), the Vineyard routes were down 1.1 percent for the year to date at the end of November, and for Nantucket, the decline was 1.6 percent.
Despite the traffic decline, income in each customer category was up — 5.3 percent for passengers for the line as a whole, two percent for autos, and 2.8 percent for trucks (freight).
