This past spring, Jeanne and Malcolm Campbell took a trip to Iceland to both celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary and being as they are both travel photographers, to participate in a photography class.

Iceland, a land of freezing temperatures and boiling geysers and volcanoes, of long nights and short days, old witch sagas and hardy people. The Campbells have tried to capture its natural beauty in their photographs, which will be presented in a slideshow at the Vineyard Haven Library on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 7 pm.

The Campbells will be joined by their special guests, two outstanding photographer/guides and residents of Iceland who will be at the library to talk about what it’s like to live there year-round, enduring long dark winters amid freezing temperatures. They will talk about everyday life in this land of hardships and unique rewards.

Experience shows

Next week, Island Elderly Housing will once again sponsor an art show by the residents. The talented group will display paintings, ceramics, fiber work and more at the show and sale on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 1 to 3 pm. The Island community is encouraged to come to the Community Room at Woodside Village II at 60B Village Road in Oak Bluffs, across from the high school.
