Responding to a report of loose sheep at the crossing of Old County Rd. and State Rd. early Thursday morning, West Tisbury police officer Bradley Cortez found himself face-to-face with a herd of about 70 sheep. Officer Cortez turned on his the blue lights and a little siren, which was enough to redirect the flock’s morning stroll.
Officer Cortez, who can be heard referencing Afghanistan in the video clip, served four and one half years as an active member of the United States Army with two deployments to Afghanistan, said this morning’s chase reminded him of his frequent sheep encounters overseas.
“No sheep were injured during their escape,” Officer Cortez told The Times.
